Ride 'em Cowboy1994 Watercolor on paper 60.0" x 40.0" Private collection This is a detail from Charles the Great, with three profiles in a circular composition, which seemed worthy of further attention. I hadn't done a large watercolor in a while, and I had begun to experiment with Rotring Artist Color (the good news is it's permanent - the bad news is it's permanent) and it worked beautifully here. I painted the facial features of the Magician and his headdress with the Rotring, and then used layers of transparent watercolor for the flesh tones, retaining sharp edges and escaping the usual bleeding of colors. |
